The iPhone 6 has broken the record set by its predecessor. The iPhone 6 and plus combined have sold more than 10 million units in the first three days of its release. The feat is even more impressive when you consider China missed out on the world wide release.
Even better for Apple, the amount of iPhones sold through to end customers and not just mobile operators has beaten any other previous release. Apple's chief executive, Tim Cook, said:
Unsurprisingly the iPhones largest market still remains the USA, where Apple dominate. iPhones account for over 40 per cent of smartphones in the USA. Apple will be hoping they can replicate similar penetration in the rest of the world, where Androids make up 80 per cent of the market.
Android users have long had access to larger screens than those previously offered by Apple's iPhones. It's yet to be seen whether Android users can be swayed now Apple have caught up in that department.
Though if Apple really want to penetrate further outside of Europe, the sooner they stop short handing the rest of the world of the full features of the iPhone 6, the better. We highly anticipate the effect Apple Pay will have on the mobile market and it's a shame that those outside the USA will have to wait. We will just have to sit back and watch from afar to see if Apple can kick start a new age of mobile payments.
